Genetics
Is Gushers indica or sativa? Its genetics and family tree
Gushers is an indica-leaning hybrid: a cross of Gelato #41, a numbered Gelato phenotype from the Cookies Family in California, and Triangle Kush, an indica from Florida.1,2,3,4 Who made the cross is disputed, Leafly lists it as TK41, and several strains sold with “Gushers” in the name do not descend from it.1,5,6,7

The two parents
Gelato #41 is one of the keepers from the Cookie Fam’s Gelato pheno-hunt, the cross of Sunset Sherbert and Thin Mint Cookies: Leafly’s genealogy lists “Bacio” Gelato 41 among the picks from a private tasting on June 16, 2014, and Leafly says it comes from the Cookies Family in California and gives a heavy, relaxing body high.2,15 Gelato has its own guide in the Official Cannabis network at gelatostrain.com.
Triangle Kush, also sold as Triangle OG and OG Triangle, is an indica from Florida that Leafly says is named after the state’s three cannabis-producing capitals, Jacksonville, Miami and Tampa; growers give it a 70-day flowering time.3 Westword counts it among the “old, mysterious Kush genetics from Florida”, and Leafly’s 100 best list calls it mythical.16,17 Seed Junky Genetics crossed it with Animal Mints to make Triangle Mints, and Leafly lists Wedding Cake, also known as Triangle Mints #23, as Triangle Kush × Animal Mints; both have their own guides in the network (trianglemints.com, weddingcakestrain.com).18,19
Who bred it: three accounts
Sources agree on the parents. They disagree on who made the cross, and none we opened gives a year.

We say “credited to Cookie Fam Genetics”, the majority account. The earliest dated record of Gushers we found is the 2018 Emerald Cup.23
One strain, several names
Menus and databases use several names for the same Gelato #41 × Triangle Kush cross. Leafly avoids the fruit snack’s name “for legal reasons” and titles its page TK41; its 2026 list of the 100 best strains calls Gushers “the copyrighted name of a gushing fruit snack brand”.1,17

Gushers, and the Gushers that aren’t
Breeders have put the name on many strains. Some descend from Gushers; others share only a Gelato parent, or a color and a fruit, with it.6,7,26

How indica is it?
Every source calls Gushers a hybrid, and most put the lean at 60% indica: AllBud, Royal Queen Seeds, Zamnesia, ILGM’s profile and Nasha Genetics’ S1 seeds all list 60% indica and 40% sativa, and Weedmaps calls it indica-dominant.4,20,22,30,31,32 Leafly files it simply as a hybrid and places its effects on the calming side of its scale.1 The parents pull in different directions: Leafly lists Triangle Kush as an indica and Gelato #41 as a hybrid, and crosses with Durban lean the other way, Durban Gushers being 60% sativa.2,3,10
The original cut versus seed versions
Gushers spread as cuttings. SeedFinder notes that Cookie Fam Genetics’ Gushers was never available as feminized seeds, ILGM says it does not sell Gushers seeds, and a home grower quoted by Westword in 2019 said they had not found seeds anywhere.16,21,22
Seeds sold under the name are new lines. Royal Queen Seeds and Zamnesia sell feminized Gelato #41 × Triangle Kush seeds and Zamnesia an autoflower; Nasha Genetics sells a Gushers S1 (Gushers × Gushers), and Humboldt Seed Organisation a fast-flowering cross with Uncirculated OG Auto.30,31,32,33,34 Cuts differ too: Westword found that the flavor “really depends on the cut”.16
What our lab data adds
Our strict name matching counted 177 flower tests of Gushers (2 of them labelled Fruit Gushers, which we count as the same strain) and excluded 248 results across all product types (143 of them flower) sold under longer names, led by "Gushers and Cream" (36), "(H) Nuclear Gushers" (20), "Nuclear Gushers" (12).35 One of those names, "Watermelon Gushers" (8 results), is a separate Gushers cross from Cannarado Genetics.11
